about

Released in 1997. Two viols and harmonic singing.

"Et lux in tenebris lucet, et tenebrae eam non comprehenderunt" John I,5
This fin de siècle plays Monopoly, Frankenstein, Mikado, or seeks God in its bathroom, adoring itself. For a musician, it is rather complicated to decide not to play sorcerer´s apprentice anymore.

The cause of this world is beyond this world.
The cause of movement is beyond movement.
Tha cause of music is beyond music.

"When lost, go back to your source". (African proverb)

see Matthew VI, 33 ; John XVIII, 36.

Having found the "why", one must find the "how" (James III, 26). Unfortunately, traditional foundations are almost completely lost in the West. Why not look in the right direction, as besides living practices, there are also Scriptures. Not in order to make some syncretism, or follow any pseudo guru, but to find what has been forgotten in the West, because, whatever the author would do, someOne decided this side of his self be born in Lorraine and not in India or Arabia.

Music uses sounding symbols, angles (read "angels") related one to another, giving proportions, which act according to rules analogous to the planets.

The Bridge - Two viols and harmonic singing

1 - The Source
2 - The Bridge

Night - Two viols

3 - Quidam
4 - Night

An ostinato is used in the two pieces to give orientation. The rhythm used in both pieces has a direct trace in Arabian music, where it is called "the great Unity" (Wahida kebira) when played slowly, and "rounding" or "turning" (Malfuf), when fast...
Another characteristic of this rhythm: it is composed of three elements, the last "bringing back" to the first (he who has a heart understands)

Recorded late afternoon and evening on the 13th of December 1996, in a large Bavarian beer cellar.

About the interpretation of these "modes", and before setting the stake, read Psalm XI, 3: "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

Composed, performed and produced by Gilles Zimmermann.
